KRUU-LP 100.1 FM [www.kruufm.com] is community radio, pure and simple. The focus on locally-created programming is reflected in our program schedule. Featuring some 75 weekly shows, 100% of our programming is produced by local volunteer hosts and/or former members of this community who contribute from their current locations. On September 9, 2009 at 9am, KRUU became the first solar-powered radio station in the Midwest. Inspired by KRUU's vision as a media center, the project was almost entirely donated by leaders in the local green movement, individuals, businesses and organizations, coming together to create this milestone for Iowa and the greater Midwest. KRUU's commitment to community also extends to the software and systems that are in place at the station. All the computing infrastructure uses only Free software (sometimes termed Open Source software).
