Genre Detail

Rock n roll is a popular music genre dating back to the 1950s and has become one of the most played and listened to music styles as far as the music world is consigned. With its original combination of rhythm, blues, and country music. It’s grown so much through time much to a point where it has come to encompass jazz, blues, folk, and various other music genres. Rock and roll is played with many heavy musical instruments but it centers more on the electric guitar with other instruments like drums, bass, vocals played in the background. A piano is sometimes added but it’s usually rarely used in a pure rock group. The genre has become extremely diverse and Rock ’n’ roll in particular, has meant a lot of things to a lot of different people.

A number of distinct rock music subgenres had emerged, including hybrids like blues rock, folk-rock, country-rock, southern rock, raga rock and jazz-rock, many of which contributed to the development of psychedelic rock. In addition, rock music has been divided into many styles which includes hard rock, punk rock, folk-rock, Southern rock, Krautrock, heartland rock, prog rock, jazz-rock, electro-rock, rap-rock, pop-rock, arena-rock, pub-rock, alternative-rock, emo-rock, noise rock, along with more textural categories like grunge, hardcore, shoegaze, and of course heavy metal, which comes with its feast of sub-sub-genres. And then there’s “classic rock.”

Rock music has also been embodied and served as the vehicle for cultural and social movements, leading to major subcultures including mods and rockers in the UK  and is often seen as an expression of youth revolt against adult consumerism and conformity. All this has been rock ’n’ roll’s longstanding association with rebellion, individuality and coolness. This can be found in the adjectival use, i.e. like when a hero in an action movie declares that it’s “time to rock and roll” before doing something awesome, introducing white suburban teenagers to a culture that sounded more exotic, thrilling, and illicit than anything they had ever known. Rock ’n’ Roll has come a very long way since the 1950s.

Talking about rock music, you can’t help but mention some of its founding artists such as; the Beatles, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Queens who were well known during their time. Rock and Roll have evolved since then with young and talented bands like Royal Blood, Rush, Tenament and their songs.
